What is valerian and properties
Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) is undoubtedly the best known natural tranquilizer. Its main use is related to sleep disorders and its consumption is usual, especially among those who suffer from insomnia.
It is a plant native to Europe and certain parts of Asia, although it is currently very present in North America. Its cultivation is typical of wetlands and is so widespread that we find plantations in countries as diverse as Belgium, Holland, India, Japan, Colombia or the Andean regions of Chile and Argentina.
For the elaboration of the products that contain this plant, what is used in the preparation is the essential oil that is obtained from its root and that has a powerful sedative action.
Valerian's healthy properties
Valerian acts as a sedative agent, relaxing the nervous system and the brain. Unlike other tranquilizers, this plant does not exhaust or weaken those who consume it, so it is usually recommended to take it mainly in people who have trouble falling asleep.
It is also recommended for those conditions related to stress and anxiety that occur with other reactions such as hysteria, headaches and migraines, stomach pains or hypochondria.
In the same way, it relieves the symptoms of anguish, emotion or sadness, as well as nervousness. At the same time it helps to stabilize the heart rate, so its intake may be recommended for those who suffer from arrhythmias.
