This definitive edition of El Eternauta, created by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, is a pillar of Latin American science fiction and comic art. Originally serialized in 106 installments between 1957 and 1959 in the magazine Hora Cero Semanal, this graphic novel tells the gripping story of a deadly snowfall, an invisible enemy, and a world on the brink.
This re-release features meticulous restoration of over fifty illustrations to enhance visual quality while preserving the spirit of the original work. With its narrative strength, political resonance, and rich iconography, El Eternauta remains as relevant and captivating as ever.
Synopsis
The narrative unfolds in Buenos Aires, where a sudden and deadly snowfall blankets the city, killing anyone exposed to it. Juan Salvo, along with his family and friends, survives by sealing themselves inside their home. As they venture out, donning improvised protective suits, they discover that the snowfall is the first wave of an alien invasion. The invaders employ various proxies, including giant beetles and mind-controlled humans, to subjugate the population. Salvo becomes part of the resistance, battling the extraterrestrial threat in a desperate fight for humanity's survival. Eventually, he is caught in a time-travel mishap, becoming "El Eternauta," a wanderer through time and space, eternally searching for his lost family.
In April 2025, Netflix released a new adaptation of El Eternauta, directed by Bruno Stagnaro and starring renowned Argentine actor Ricardo Darín as Juan Salvo. The series reimagines the classic story while preserving its essential themes of resistance and survival.
