After the death of the writer Sergei Vidal Morozov, his publishing house commissioned Franco de Robertis to produce an annotated edition of posthumous short stories. The choice is no coincidence: De Robertis has been, throughout much of the renowned author's career, his closest collaborator, an intellectual - and also emotional - subordinate in a relationship that, as the annotator himself maintains, is "the age of his memory". However, once he has embarked on his métier, things seem to get out of hand, and what was initially planned as a panegyric task gives way to an unexpected textual incontinence. De Robertis distils in his notes a different story that seems to have little to do with the mother book. An underground plot populated by unpublished situations and the most varied characters: Morozov himself and a documentary made with a group of child actors, crossed loves, a cursed diamond, betrayals, secrets, jealousies, lights and shadows. Literary, theatrical, police, infinite, hallucinated, profound and at the same time funny: that is Notas al pie, the new novel by Alejandro Dolina. A universe with its own rules that unfolds in front of the reader like a game of Chinese boxes. An exquisite architecture that only the mastery and sensitivity of the author of classics such as Crónicas del Ángel Gris and Cartas marcadas are capable of sustaining.
