Bananita Dolca and Beetlejuice
As we mentioned before in some other posts of the blog, Argentine people have a thing for sweet treats. That is why we have plenty of classic candies and chocolate bites that have stayed relevant in the market for years along with Alfajores. “Bananita Dolca” is one of these chocolates.
Bananita Dolca is a banana shaped bite of chocolate, stuffed with a soft banana flavored filling. If you like the famous yellow fruit, you will definitely enjoy it. At first it was originally made by Misky, a brand that later was bought by Arcor. But for the last 60 years it has been fabricated by Nestlé, who now owns the rights to the chocolate.
It is such a classic chocolate bite in the country that you can even find Banana Dolca ice cream flavor in some of the most famous ice cream parlors (sometimes mixed with Dulce de Leche! Yummy!) And also, if you are lucky you might even find that some beer breweries have made a special beer flavor in honor of this chocolate bite.
You might ask: What does Bananita Dolca have to do with the Beetlejuice? Well, you probably remember the brilliant and acclaimed 1988 movie directed by Tim Burton. In this film there is an iconic scene where the actress Catherine O’Hara who played the character of Delia, an eccentric artist married to a former real estate developer named Charles, played by Jeffrey Jones, celebrates a dinner party. In this pivotal part of the film, the guests and everyone around the table are possessed by ghosts who start singing and dancing through them the song: “Day-o” by Belafonte.
This song, which is originally a calypso anthem originated in Jamaica, has also been used by Nestlé for a Bananita Dolca publicity, and has been living in the heads of almost every older than 30 Argentine , for years.
“Bana bana, bana, na, bananita Dolca su encanto es el sabor”
Do you remember it? We hope you enjoyed this little fact with a brief trip to the past. If you also want to recall how it tastes don’t forget that it doesn’t matter if you’re in Australia, Canada or Japan you can buy Bananita Dolca from anywhere in the world at www.pampadirect.com
