How To Prepare the Perfect Fernet with Coke?

“Fernet con Coca”, “Fernando”, “Fernandito”. It doesn’t matter how it is called, everyone loves it. Fernet Branca with Coke is so popular in Argentina that it makes it the larger consumer of the beverage in the whole world. Seventy - five percent of all the Fernet Branca made in the globe is consumed in this country.

Fernet is an “amaro” which was initially made in Italy for remedial purposes and could be found in pharmacies. This bitter and magical syrup would help your body to digest any excess of food and make you feel better. People would originally drink it mixed with water, carbonated water or red vermouth after lunch or dinner. This tradition travelled through the ocean with Italians to the South American country, where they still can’t understand how it became so notorious.

It was around the eighties where the drink became popular among young people at bars, concerts or any night outing where alcoholic beverages were involved. The taste of the “amaro” Fernet Branca is almost hostile because of how strong it is. This unconventional flavor is supposedly the result of a very secret recipe that contains at least forty different types of herbs.

How did it become one of the most famous and requested drinks? The answer remains a mystery. But a possible and probably the most asserted one, is that the common way to drink it and enjoy it is to mix it with Coke. “Fernandito” even became one of the new drinks added in the International Bartenders Association list of official cocktails. Are you curious about the recipe?
