The Christmas Dinner in Argentina
As we told you before, the Christmas Eve in Argentina is a warm one. We are in the first days of summer so the temperatures are usually the first high temperatures of the season. That is why our Christmas dinner is mostly full of different light and fresh dishes or appetizers instead of heavy and high in carbohydrates ones. Then, we also have a sort of after dinner. What we usually call the “Sweet Table”. But we will leave that one for the next post.
Today, we are going to talk to you about a few of the most famous fresh meals of the Argentine Christmas Dinner.
The most ordinary appetizers or starters that you can find on any Christmas family dinner are probably an argentine version of the deviled eggs, which are eggs filled with “paté” whipped with mayonnaise. Another one is “tomates rellenos” which are tomatoes stuffed with a rice pilaf or tuna salad.
A much known dish that we generally love to enjoy on the Christmas dinner is Pionono, we gave you one of the most commons recipes but there are plenty of them so you can make them as light as you prefer.
One of the classics is the summer salad “Ensalada Rusa” (Russian potato salad). The easy one includes potato, carrots, green peas, and mayonnaise. Then you can choose for an upgraded version that also includes tuna, boiled eggs and a few olives.
Finally, for the main course some families prefer to stay true to the traditions brought from Italy and make Vitel Toné (veal in tuna sauce or Vitello Tonnato) and those who are really brave and are not afraid of the heat will stay all day beside the barbecue courting steak, sausages, chickens, or pigs.
To end the Christmas Eve on a more joyful way we like to have our tables full of sweet treats, but that it is the material for our next blog entry, so stay tuned!
