Five couples that were meant to be and one that not so much!
February is the month that is all about love. Everywhere you watch there are Valentines and flying hearts. We didn’t want to miss out on the topic so we called an emergency meeting to discuss how to participate and put our hearts into it. Here we bring you the results!
We thought for days and nights about the products that were definitely meant to be together. After a few days we came up with a selection of our all time five favorite couples plus one that will surprise you, and we wanted to share them with you.
Fernet Branca & Coca Cola

A match made in heaven. If you’ve ever met anyone from Argentina you probably heard about this cocktail. Fernet and Coca Cola (Fernandito) are two of the best things that ever happened to our country. The italian bitter amaro is the one who marks the steps for the soda, deciding if it’s going to taste darker or sweeter. We made a post about how to prepare the perfect Fernet with Coke a few months ago. This drink plus a few songs of “Cuarteto” are a must at every Argentine party. Of course we recommend to drink with moderation but we also recommend to enjoy your life as much as you can, and Fernet with Coke will definitely make you enjoy it a lot better!
Campari & Orange Juice
This one is a classic. The red bitter Campari is used for thousands of cocktails, you probably tasted it in the famous Negroni, but here we bring you a lighter version. The red bitter plus a simple orange juice and of course some ice, is a couple that can get you through a nice evening or a nice night without much trouble, only a sweet after-taste from the juice. Try it, you won’t regret it!
Beer & peanuts
Yes, we know we’re only talking about alcohol, but hey! Is always good to know what goes best with our favourite drinks! Beer is a must that shouldn’t be questioned. And although you can have it with literally anything, there are some things that simply taste better. Salted peanuts are one of those. The combination of any beer plus the classic snack salted peanuts is the best when you’re watching a soccer match or even when catching up with friends!
Bizcochitos & Mate
Another Argentine classic. If you’re a Mate drinker this one probably feels like an old song for you, but please tell everyone you know: bitter Mate with salted “bizcochitos de grasa” is the only way to be happy. There are still some discrepancies here and there about sweet or bitter Mate, and therefore what you eat with it. In this house we support all of them, of course, but with bitter Mate, salted, greasy, and addictive biscuits are the endgame.
Coffee & Alfajores
A warm coffee and your favourite Alfajor is something that will always light up your mood and keep your heart happy. We advise you to add “meriendas” to your diet and make yourself a better and happier person, because as the old saying goes: an alfajor a day keeps the doctor away.
And now, a couple that you probably haven’t thought about: Leftover pizza & Mate
Another Argentine classic. Yes, we know that pizza is supposed to be warm, right out the oven with all the cheese melting in your hand. And yes, we know that Mate is something that is meant to be shared with friends and maybe best in the afternoon but hear us out: coming back from parties, or waking up after a crazy night, the best breakfast, lunch or brunch is the leftover Pizza with a warm and loving Mate. You’re probably thinking that there are never leftovers of Pizza but our answer is: order more and keep it for the day after. It will be the best gift you could ever make to yourself. The best hangover cure. A warm Mate is a hug for your soul and the leftover pizza is a hug for your stomach. Be your own Valentine and try it out.
